Gwanaksan is a mountain of which name means “hat-shaped peak,” and refers to its gat-like profile. Thus Gwanaksan literally means “mountain of the hat-shaped peak. It’s height is 632m.
There’s actually several hiking courses but we are taking the easiest course to get the Yeonjoo-Am temple at the top of the mountain and then climb up to the Yeonjoo-Dae, a little shrine perched on the edge of cliff providing some beautifully, breath-taking views of the city, and of the Han River which snakes through Seoul from one end to the other.
Note:
• The hiking is difficult, therefore fit hikers only.
• This hike is explicitly not appropriate for children

Ha Kyung Choi is a member of The Senior Public Diplomacy Group, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, R.O.K. and also a member of The Korea Heritage Society, who graduated from Seoul National University and has lived many years in Great Britain, Germany, India and the USA. He is an experienced tour guide after his retirement from a renowned Korean Conglomerate Company, and now enjoys sharing his insight into Korean life, culture and heritage with enthusiastic foreigners.
